TOPIC: World History of Aerobiology
Michel Thibaudon is the outstanding personality who has made a significant impact on the progress of aerobiology. He is one of the co-founders of the European Society for Aerobiology, a former President of the European Society for Aerobiology, and an Honorary Member of the EAS since 2020. He is an expert in environmental health, focusing on bio-contamination and aerobiology.
The origins of aerobiology can be traced back to the 17th and 18th centuries when scientists began observing and documenting the effects of pollen and spores on human health. Development of Pollen Studies around the late 19th and early 20th centuries, then, the study of pollen became more prominent. The field expanded significantly in the mid-20th century with advancements in technology. At international levels, several aerobiology societies and research centres were established during the latter half of the 20th century. These organizations aimed to promote research, collaboration, and the exchange of information among scientists studying airborne particles.
